Explaining Death to Children: Preschool Homeschool

Explaining Death to Children - Mud Hut Mama

This weeks homeschool was a little different than usual but one of the things that I love about homeschooling is that it allows me to tailor our weekly lessons to my kids’ needs. Boo has recently had a lot of questions and concerns about death and, since Boo has been talking about it so much, Kooks has also started questioning. This weeks activities have been all about explaining death to children (specifically my children) as honestly as possible while trying to allay their fears. To be honest I hadn’t really thought about how I would talk about death to my kids until I read this post at Mama Mzungu about a year ago and thought – oh no – I’m next! Since then I’ve definitely been […] Read more »

Random Acts of Kindness: A Guest Post at All Done Monkey

Random Acts of Kindness, Malawi

Leanna over at All Done Monkey is hosting a random acts of kindness series. She has asked a group of bloggers to take one day to focus on committing random acts of kindness with their kids. I have to admit that I was a little hesitant to take this on but I am so glad we participated. To see how we spent our day click over to my post on Leanna’s blog. All Done Monkey is about “embracing the magic in the madness of motherhood.” Leanna’s boundless energy and enthusiasm always astound me. She is continually coming up with new ideas and challenging me to be more focused on this space.  The amount of work she gets through while pregnant and chasing a toddler is […] Read more »

I can’t get over how quickly that time went and while we are finished trying to grow our family, and I’m happy with that decision, it is bittersweet letting go of all the baby reminders. The travel cot is the last big item. Our girls never had cribs. They coslept when they were tiny, then transfered to the travel cot until they were ready for a bed. Kooks has seemed comfortable in her cot, we have a nice thick mattress for it so it was a comfy space. I’ve been in no rush to move her out and have two kids that can […] Read more »

Power Outage: A Perfect Moment

Kooks Power Outage

On the last Monday of each month Lori at Write Mind Open Heart posts about a perfect moment she has had. She says, “it is about noticing a perfect moment rather than creating one.” I really love the idea of being mindful of perfect moments and dwelling on them when they happen, so this month I am participating. To read other perfect moments or to link up your own, visit Lori’s post. The electricity (and sometimes lack there of) at the conservation project here has been a real adjustment for me. Other projects we have worked with have used solar power and have been off the grid so as long as you managed your power, you were never without it. When we have worked in […] Read more »
