Preschool Homeschool Lesson Plans: Week 7, Age 3

It was a fairly quiet week as far as academics go but it was really busy as we prepared for Kooks’s second birthday party. This was also the week Boo decided to drop her nap!

Literacy and Language Arts:

I pinned up some letter cards and Boo practiced writing the letters on her chalkboard.

We used our whiteboard for the first time ever. I wrote the letters Boo has already learned and she traced them while we practiced our letter sounds. I had originally planned to have her circle the letters when I said their sound but she wanted to trace them.

Then she decided that many of the letters needed faces and curly hair.

We also started learning the phonics song by KidsTV123.

Cognitive Skills and Math:

I drew hopscotch boards and the girls jumped and counted. Then Boo decided she wanted to trace the numbers. She is very into tracing at the moment.

We dumped our go fish cards on the floor and had fun finding matches and counting.

We made cookies for Kooks’s party and did a lot of mixing, measuring, and rolling.

Science and Nature Studies:

Boo drew a picture of these elephants that have been visiting the house. She got some practice cutting and pasting when she added them to her nature journal.

We had tons of fun exploring and playing in the river at Kooks’s second birthday party.

Play:

We made this leopard piñata for Kooks’s safari birthday party.

We went to visit the new airstrip that has just been cleared and had an enormous open space to run around in.

Life Skills:

Boo put on a dress all by herself this week! She’s been close for a while now but just managed to get her arms and head through all the right holes completely by herself. She’s been able to get her shoes on the right feet by herself for quite some time. It seems to be hit or miss with pants, but we are well on our way to the day when she regularly dresses herself. My baby is growing up!

Thoughts:

I’m mourning the loss of the dual nap. I knew it would happen sooner or later and we had a nice run of it but I’m definitely adjusting to the fact that Boo is now awake all day long! It was so nice to have that hour or so every morning. The plus is that it gives Boo and I some one on one time that we haven’t had a whole lot of lately and I have to admit that she is really good at playing quietly when I tell her I have something I need to get done. Generally she asks to do school and if I set up some materials and give her a task she works diligently on it until it is complete. I’m going to try to reserve Kooks’s nap time for school work that Boo and I need to work on uninterrupted and for quiet independent playtime. We’ll see how that goes!
